Once you have purchased your new LCD television, now what? You have to make a choice—are you going to mount the baby on a wall mount TV stand or on a very tradition style of TV stand? Both choices have their pros and cons. We’ll look at them all here so you don’t have to find them out the hard way.

TV Wall Mount

It may seem pretty cool to have your TV stand mounted to the wall but there is a lot that goes into doing that. Here’s just a little sample of the things you need to complete to do so.

1. Buy the appropriate TV stand wall mount for your specific TV. These can sometimes be very proprietary, meaning they can jack up the price because it only fits your TV.

2. Let’s say for instance the TV stand doesn’t fit the TV quite right but it’s the closest you could find. No worries, just spend some more money on some plaster. 

3. Find where your wall studs are. I should have actually put this as step one because you really want to make sure your TV stand will fit to the studs. If you don’t hit the studs, you’re screwed.

4. GET IT ALL LEVEL. There’s no turning around here. If it’s not level, you won’t be able to fix it unless you want to through it on a different wall. Those holes are big enough that you can’t move it just a half inch or so. Move it two feet or change walls. If you change walls, you can expect to buy some more plaster to fill in those other big holes.

5. Put a few giant holes in your wall in the correct spot. Sorry if I made that sound like a big step in your relationship.

6. Drill another hole into your wall behind the TV stand where you want the wires to go (unless of course you want them hanging but I’m guessing you put the TV on a wall mount TV stand to look cool so that’s out of the question). Drill another hole where they need to come out.

7. Connect your TV to the TV stand. For the love of everything that is holy, get someone to help you with this difficult TV stand step.

8. Have your eight year old hang from the TV to make sure everything is sturdy. Just kidding. Actually, make some sort of devise to keep all children as far away as you can.

The Traditional TV Stand

Pure Simplicity

Now that that’s done...  Let me quickly tell you a few simple steps if you plan to go the more traditional route.

Traditional TV Stand

1.  Buy a TV stand that looks good where you want it. Don’t worry about your television model. Just make sure the TV stand is deep enough and wide enough. If it’s that flat screen, then it’s deep enough. Don’t worry.

2.  Get the TV stand delivered. Most places might even offer this as a free service. Use your precious time playing video games on your new huge TV.

3.  Put your TV on the TV stand. Hide the wires behind it or in a drawer where you can’t see them. Now you have that nice Japanese, less-is-more, aesthetically pleasing look.

4.  Buy pizza, play some more video games.

This is the best video ever. Thank you so much. I wanted to hang my TV, but was afraid the apartments wall would be damaged. Indeed it would because I had no idea about finding the wall stud. I would be doomed. Lol. Now I feel confident to do it. Doing it RIGHT that is.
